A level walk along country roads and farm tracks following the start of the Solway from Gretna. Take care along the road section as it is quite heavily used (with plenty of delivery vans hurtling along), and also take care along the section of merse as it would be easy to twist an ankle on the rough ground. The best path that we found largely followed the route of the single strand fence just above the mud.
