I think that this path has been improved since the D&G leaflet was written (with a new bird hide added) and it can now be described as an all ability path all the way along (there are some patches which may be a little soft after rain, and one or two tree roots to navigate).
Sadly there were no views over to Criffel on the day I visited, but there was still plenty to see on this short walk. Note that Carlaverock Castle is closed at the time of writing, with no date given for reopening.
