Wanlockhead to Sanquhar

The most convenient bus from Sanquhar currently runs at 11:23 am Monday to Saturday. If you do have time for a quick visit to the museum it certainly helps you understand the conditions that the miners (and children) worked under in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in Wanlockhead. The recent addition of the ‘Visions of the Past’ trail also explains much of the industrial heritage left down the valley.

After leaving Wanlockhead the path strikes up and across upper moorland, offering good views if you are as lucky with the weather as I was. Even on a fine day in July I only met one other pair of walkers along the way and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet. The route is easy to follow – simply look out for the SUW marker posts.
