The Parks

An easy stroll along the banks of the Nith with some historic landmarks including Castledykes Park.

Some of the landmarks mentioned in the route description have changed or disappeared altogether but the walk is easy to follow. Don’t miss one of the last remains of Dumfries’ industrial past on the opposite bank from the car park where you start, which surely can’t remain in its present state for much longer.

There are many new developments in the grounds of the the Crichton including two cafes, both of which are worth a visit. All of the walk is through parks or on pavements apart from one very short section as you approach Kingholm Quay (which also offers refreshment in The Swan).
