Popular with local walkers and runners, Screel is energetic enough to let you know you been for a hill walk, but can easily be completed in under two hours. On a clear day there are superb views to the Cumbrian fells and the Isle of Man. The top section of the walk is always wet underfoot but most of the route is on forest trails or rocky paths. If you want to expand your walk you can take in the neighbouring Bengairn, which will add on about an hour to your walk.
If you visit on a particularly busy day you may find that the small car park is full (it only accommodates about a dozen cars). If you drive back down to the main road you will find a lay-bye immediately on your left where some additional parking is available.
Despite what the guide says, there is no natural arch!
