Starting from the centre of Dumfries this is a riverside walk with surprisingly rural views.
Much of the path is along narrow riverside paths where walking two abreast would be challenging, with the return half mainly along a cycle route and then through the town centre. A very short section (perhaps 100m) is along the side of the A75, the noise of which is evident during much of this walk.
Note that my gps track is not accurate in the attached kmz file for some of the outwards leg along the river – I don’t know if the large stone walls that this section of the walk follows may have interfered with it. The walk is easy enough to follow in any case, just make sure you take the right hand subway out of the underpass despite the sign having been ‘adjusted’ to point the wrong way.
