A circular walk around Carlingwark Loch in Castle Douglas. Some of the path is quite muddy particularly in winter. There is a section along a country road without a pavement, but the only section along a main road has a wide pavement (which is also a shared cycle lane). There is an extended section along a boardwalk allowing a good view of the marshland at the bottom of the loch.
If following the route clockwise from Castle Douglas you can avoid a section along the road by turning right up Lover’s Walk at the edge of the Loch (which in any case is a more interesting route than the one in the route plan).
The Douglas mausoleum is quite atmospheric, and you can pop in to Threave Gardens on the way past (where you can get a cup of tea without paying to enter the gardens).
