A short walk up a small hill on dry gravel paths to a viewpoint with views over Loch Ken and into the Galloway Hills. The path is along the side of a field but separated from it by a barbed wire fence.
The walk can be extended by following the Parton Heritage Walk (6km) which is explained on an information board at the start point.
Half a mile down the road, Parton Kirk is the burial place of James Clerk Maxwell, one of the world’s greatest theoretical physicists, who was raised in the family home a few miles away at Glenlair. The grave is easy to find in an enclosure to the left of the Kirk. His work ranks with that of Newton and Einstein and it is no doubt partly due to his personal modesty that he is not celebrated today to the extent that his work deserves.
