Unless the weather has been very dry I would strongly recommend boots for this walk as some parts are quite muddy. However it is worth it for the good views of the hills and back over the town.
I think part of the walk has been re-routed near to the farm at Alton, or perhaps I wasn’t paying enough attention, but it is easy enough to follow.
